Further Information

At the end of the world tells a story of a childhood trauma, taboo and prejudice and how to find the way home.

The story takes place in the northenmost area in Iceland in the sixties and seventies. The heroine is the authors mother, Maggý who grew up on an isolated farm with 13 siblings.

It´s based on an interview with her later in life, and after her death, interviews with her siblings and childhood friends.

It´s a wonderful story filled with adventures like mysterious creatures from the big sea, polar bears, shark and seal hunting and curious children playing with dangerous things. But it´s also a story about a heartache, violance and indifference. It looks at
childhood trauma and the affect it can have later in life.

The farm Heiðarhöfn today

On the 28´th of april 2010 my mother undervent a simple operation that caused her to lose her mind and take her life.

Questions followed and the story is a journey in search of answers and acceptance
it´s a journey to the end of the world - and back home.

We need to talk about suicide. We need to talk about mental illnesses and loose the shame, if we want to do better, and we need to do better.
Every life is precious and has a story to tell.

I didn´t want my mother to be a part another statistic and I wanted to put a face to this word: suicide.

We support Hugrún

We donate kr. 500 of every sold copy of the book to Hugrún, a group of university students that dedicate their time to visit collage students and tell them about mental health.

Can you help?

The main cost of publication is printing and we want to raise enough for the half of that cost. The sales will cover the rest - it limits our personarl risk.
