Further Information

At the end of the year 1982 no less than four LP records came on the market where flautist Manuela Wiesler performs a number of solo works for flute, some especially written for her.
As to be expected this release attracted great attention as it is unheard that four records are released at the same time with the same performer – and recorded only in two nights in Háteigs-church in Reykjavík.
Wiesler was her own publisher and sold the records in her own recitals and to friends and fans. And they sold out quickly. The records have now been unavailable for more than three decades. These records contain many of the works dearest to Wiesler. The recording project was Wiesler’s own initiative and is therefore of great importance in her output as a musician. It was her biggest single recording project. Therefore it is of great importance to make them available on CD's for future generations of flautist and music lovers to enjoy. The lacking of this recordings on the market leaves a hole in Wiesler's recording output.

On the back of the LP cover’s Wiesler writes:
“The idea with this series of records for solo flute was to portray the possibilities of the instrument and to preserve the atmosphere of the actual performance in recording. The recording was made in the Háteigs-church in Reykjavík on September 11/12 1982, with two AKG C-414 microphones in a crossed figure-of-eight configuration (Blumlein). No noise reduction, equalization, compression, artificial reverberation etc. were used. Please excuse the traffic noise, but the nights in Reykjavík are not as quiet as you might expect …”

Manuela Wiesler passed away in 2006. Last July she would have reached the aged of sixty. To honor her memory and to keep alive her biggest single recording project, I and Tonmeister Bjarni Rúnar Bjarnason plan to reissue these four LP’s in a Box set of four CD’s under Polarfonia Classics ehf. Label. To do so we need your help and support.

Digital masering of the original recordings is in the hands of Tonmeister Bjarni Rúnar Bjarnason who also did the recordings in 1982.
Photographs of Manuela Wiesler are made by Jóhannes Long.
Publisher of the reissue is Polarfonia Classics ehf.
The legal rights of these recordings are in the hands of Manuela's children. They have granted permission for this reissue, free of charge.

Manuela Wiesler was born in Brazil in 1955, the daughter of an Austrian cameraman and a ballerina. In 1957 she moved with her family to Vienna, where she entered the Conservatory of Music in 1967, later studying in Paris. In 1973 she moved with her husband to Iceland and lived there for a decade. Long after leaving Iceland Wiesler kept a close connection with the country and it's musical live.
In 1976 she won the Nordic Chamber Music Competition in Helsinki and in 1980 she attracted great attention at the Copenhagen Music Bienale. Further study with James Galway was followed by this success. Since then she has enjoyed a career as a soloist.

Ljósmyndir af Manuelu tók Jóhannes Long.
Útgefandi er Polarfonia Classics ehf.
Rétthafar að hljóðritununum eru börn Manuelu. Þau hafa gefið leyfi sitt fyrir endurútgáfunni.

Allir sem aðverkefninu koma gera það án endurgjalds. Því er hér aðeins verið að safna fyrir eiginlegum kostnaði við framleiðslu útgáfunnar auk STEF gjalda.

Aftaná plötuumslögunum stendur:
“The idea with this series of records for solo flute was to portray the possibilities of the instrument and to preserve the atmosphere of the actual performance in recording. The recording was made in the Háteigs-church in Reykjavík on September 11/12. 1982, with two AKG C-414 microphones in a crossedfigure-of-eight configuration (Blumlein). No noise reduction, equalization, compression, artificial reverberation etc. were used. Please excuse the trafficnoise, but the nights in Reykjavík are not as quiet as you might expect …”
