Málshöfðun vegna ólögmætrar landtöku í Vatnsmýri 1946
The Association for Better Urbanization, a group of people interested in a better urban community - https://www.betribyggd.is has decided to initiate legal action against the Icelandic state for illegal land acquisition in Vatnsmýri in Reykjavík in 1946.

In 1946, the Icelandic state robbed the Reykjavik residents of their best residential and construction area in Vatnsmýri, where a dense and mixed urban center was to be built, and instead demolished a British military airfield.
The Association for Better Urbanization is a non-partisan organization that has fought since 1999 for humane urban planning in urban areas, where sustainability is paramount and people, their culture, and their livelihoods are taken into account.

By locating Reykjavík Airport where it is, all urban planning around it was put on hold. The airport has therefore from the beginning created major constraints on the normal development and planning of the urban area around it. The result is inefficiency in urban planning that has cost a lot of money.

You can be a part of greatly enhancing your city with a new downtown core that would extend from the pond in the old city center, through a new downtown area and all the way down to Nauthólmsvík. This would also create a ring road for traffic around the capital area and the opportunity for a new east/west trunk road.
By supporting this project, you are participating in financing legal action against the Icelandic state to achieve the justice that the residents deserve.
In 1946, Iceland's recalcitrant rulers, in their utter stupidity and ignorance, invented a way to turn universal truths and thousands of years of human experience in urban development upside down. They robbed the Reykjavikans of their best residential and construction area in Vatnsmýri, where a dense and mixed city center was supposed to be built, and instead demolished a British military airfield.
At the same time, the Reykjavikites stripped the city of all airspace over the Nesin peninsula west of the Elliðaái River and robbed the city residents of planning authority under the cover and in the shadow of the incredible indifference of the elected representatives of the Reykjavikites in the city council and in the Alþingi. Throughout the republic and longer, these elected representatives have come from the rural-led candidate lists of the nationalist parties and are therefore incompetent and plagued by silencing and servitude caused by the imbalance of votes.
We want a decision in court on whether it is right to keep the construction site in Vatnsmýrin reserved or whether it should be used better by the public – for housing, urban development and quality of life. To do this, we need to take legal action against the Icelandic state.
Such cases are costly and require expert work, lawyers and planners. That is why we are now seeking public support to finance the preparation and conduct of the case.
With your contribution, you help ensure that the case receives fair and professional treatment in court.
Even a small contribution from you makes a difference. If many people contribute, we can collectively ensure that this important case comes to court. Let's support a democratic debate about the future of Vatnsmýrin. "1000 people contribute 5,000 kr. – and the case goes to court."
Your support will go towards:
- Preparation for the court case
- Cost of legal services
- Work on expert reports

THE ASSOCIATION FOR BETTER BUILDING IS A FREE AND INDEPENDENT PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION (NGO) IN THE FIELD OF CITY PLANNING.
The Association for Better Building is a non-partisan organization that has been fighting for humane urban planning in urban areas since 1999, where sustainability is paramount and people, their culture and livelihood are taken into account.
The Association for Better Building wants to inform the public about the interaction between urban planning and quality of life and to arouse interest in environmental issues in a broad context.
The organization looks only at the largest aspects of the urban landscape, at density and other quality of the settlement, at safety and public safety, where housing, main roads, business areas, city centers, airports and ports should be located.
The purpose of the association is to provide professional comments and suggestions on the plans, actions and inactions of planning authorities and to present proposals for better urban planning in the main and regional planning areas of Reykjavík and the capital region of HBS in the interest of the public good.
The association's suggestions and proposals are always based on the universal assumptions of Western philosophy and international human rights treaties. That all people are equal, that the democratic will of the majority and the public good always come first, and that the rights of minorities are always guaranteed.
