The first Icelandic Zombie movie

Zombie Island is a horror inspired by the dark and disturbing worlds of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD and 28 DAYS LATER. Set in the Reykjanes Peninsula, Iceland, it is the story of The Hunter, who is ridden with memory loss. As he travels deeper into the virus-infested towns, in a total electrical blackout, he gathers a group of survivors and together they try to find out the cause for the outbreak and a way off the island. As the group grows larger the theories for the outbreak grow stranger until all is revealed in the end when The Hunters memory returns.

The film combines the well known zombie genre with drama and action. The undertone is politically polemic and questions the social structure in these times we live in. The films characters generally speak English (80%) and an insignificant amount of dialogue is in Icelandic (20%).

Zombie Island is made by people who love movies. The background of the filmmakers are different but all have a passion of making movies and have fun doing it.
The director Marteinn Ibsen is a London film school graduate. Marteinn has worked on many films and projects around the world, from short films, documentaries to feature films.
Guðmundur Ingvar Jónsson plays the leading role in Zombie Island. He has a masters degree in literature and movie history. Guðmundur finished The Icelandic Film Academy in 1998.
Halldór Jón Björgvinsson plays a supporting role and is an assistant director in Zombie Island. He has a B.Sc. degree in geography. Halldór finished The Icelandic Film Academy in 1998.
Þórunn Guðlaugsdóttir plays the leading female role. She is the president and one of three funders of Hamfarir Theatre Group. Þórunn graduated as an actress and filmmaker from the The Icelandic Film Academy. Þórunn has held various roles both on stage an in films.
Hlynur Þór Valsson plays a supporting role. Hlynur has B.Ed. degree and works as a theacher. Hlynur has a passion for filmmaking and has made many short films. Hlynur is a great singer and gitarplayer.
Davíð Örn Óskarsson plays a small role as a Zombie. Davíð was the leading art director and make up artist. Davíð has a education in graphic design.
Karl Newman was the director of cinematograpy. Karl has a degree from The New School for Design in New York. Karl has been a part of many productions as a cinematographer.
