Further Information

Fjölskylduland will be the first holistic Indoor Playground and Family Center in Iceland. It will offer a safe, enriching, and developmentally stimulating environment for children up to six years old. A carefully designed space for creative play and exploration for children as well as a supportive environment for parents and parents to be, with a whole array of workshops, classes, and events. A one-stop family land that Iceland desperately needs.

A Well-Designed Indoor Playground With Skilled and Educated Staff

Fjölskylduland will be a well-designed indoor playground and a source of rich sensory input for babies, toddlers, and young children. Sensory play is something that is hard to enjoy outdoors when wearing the thick coats, mittens, and boots that are needed in cold weather.

Fjölskylduland will provide a screen-free environment for babies and young children. It will be carefully designed with natural materials and open-ended toys, handpicked by developmental therapists, providing the right amount of appropriate stimulation.

Fjölskylduland will be a place where skilled and educated staff will be present to interact with guests, although the children are under the responsibility of the parents. Children can explore the environment safely and independently with their parents/caretakers as a secure base to return to. Adults can enjoy a cup of coffee and each other’s company while watching the children interact with others.

A Meetup Location and a One-Stop Parent Resource Center

The ultimate objective is to provide opportunities for connections in a broad sense between families and their communities.

Fjölskylduland is a place that all parents long for. It is very common that stay-at-home parents feel isolated at times and exhausted in the demanding job that parenting truly is. This will be a place where expecting parents, new parents, as well as those who have multiple kids, can socialize, have a good coffee, and relax while their kids do their hard work: Learning through play.

Fjölskylduland will offer educational and recreational courses and classes for parents and families together, that support play, creativity, relaxation and strengthen caretakers in their roles. We’ll regularly check with you to find out what kind of classes you’re interested in and will try to arrange for them to happen.

Therapy Center for Developmental Support

Fjölskylduland will cooperate with a variety of specialists, organizations, and individuals who can offer therapy, support, and education to families. We are happy to introduce Fjölskyldulands’s first contributors: our list is incomplete and we welcome any new contributors to join us!

Hreyfiland
Hreyfiland is a family gym in the capital area that offers play-based movement development classes for babies and children from 3 months up to 6 years, led by a qualified child motor development therapist.

Hreyfiland gym will continue its operations in Fjölskylduland. It will offer play-based developmental supporting classes for typically developing kids, as well as provide targeted individual therapy for kids who are experiencing developmental delays or who are struggling with unusual behaviors. Additionally, a comprehensive examination of the sensorimotor and cognitive development of children will also be available on request.

Memmm Play
Memmm Play is an organization that is working towards a more family-friendly community in Iceland and will continue to do so in Fjölskylduland. Memmm Play offers a variety of creative events for families and organizes family mornings where parents/caretakers and children are invited to a welcoming space to play together, grow their social community, and get information regarding children and parenting.

Þorpið tengslasetur
The founders of Þorpið tengslasetur (The Village: Community of connection) and the co-creators community are firm believers in the philosophy “it takes a village to raise a child” and the company was created as a response to a highly stressful environment in our society because of its impact on our children and their families. Þorpið is a platform that supports secure attachment for families through various events, courses, and individual services that are also online. development.

TANIT
TANIT is a health & personal development coaching center focused on redefining outdated concepts in the fields of parenting, motherhood, and couples. Bringing a more conscious approach to the ways we nurture our relationships and particularly how it all comes down to the relationship we have with our own self. Moving towards a conscious, aligned, and empowered state of being at every step of the way.

Tína
Tina is a yoga teacher. She teaches children and teenagers, beginners, seniors, people with limited mobility, and everybody who likes to improve their lives. She will guide you through a vinyasa flow class, yin yoga class, and Yoga Nidra. She is also an Ayurveda massage therapist and a Reiki healer. Tina will offer yoga classes for children and families in Fjölskylduland.

More about our team

About the Space Itself

Located in a central position in Vogabyggð, at a walking distance from Vogar bus station and with plenty of parking space. Fjölskylduland is strategically located to be easily reached by families in the entire capital area.

Fjölskylduland will offer visually open, supervised play areas, which will ensure that the children are safe while also challenging them to think, explore, interact, and have fun. The area will be approximately 1200 square meters in size, consisting of:

- A 200-sqm play area for children over the age of three;
- A separate play area for toddlers with carefully selected developmental toys;
- An indoor treehouse with a slide
- A pathway for scooters and balance bikes;
- A small bouldering (climbing) wall with soft mattresses on the floor;
- A separate sensory station with a sandpit and a small pond/water play station
- A library with a reading station (a seating area with tables, chairs, junior swings, and nest swings); and
- A quiet, cozy corner for breastfeeding and a soft belly crawling area for the tiniest guests.

The play structures will be custom designed and built for us. Here are some examples of the tree- and forest-themed structures that the designers we have in mind have previously built:

In addition to all of the above, there will also be:
- Two larger multipurpose rooms with soft floor for developmental classes and parent workshops as well.
- Some smaller therapy rooms
- A café lounge

Future Plans
- There’s even more in the works! Future expansions will include:
- A covered outdoor playground
- A covered outdoor storing space for strollers
- An outdoor grill area
- A sensory salt therapy room.

What is needed for the project to happen

We have some funding and potential investors that believe in Fjölskylduland. Within our team, we have the expertise and experience to create and run Fjölskylduland on ideas that have already been proven to work. Working with us we have many professionals who will contribute to creating the interior we’ve dreamed of. We already have some suitable indoor playroom equipment.

What we need right now is a boost to start, which will help pay for the construction work and material, treehouse, furniture, and lighting. Fjölskylduland will be a big center and there are many things to get done. With your help, we can make this a reality!

Join us, support us, and enjoy the benefits of being one of the founders of the wonderful Fjölskylduland!

Here you see the wooden house in Fjölskylduland.

It is specially designed and built by Dénes Fabrik ÁCS for Fjölskylduland. It is built on-site from EURO pallets and has ECO certification. It should be noted that this is one of the largest if not the largest indoor wooden houses in the world built from EURO boards!
