About Berserkir (the Beserks)
The owners of Berserkir axarkast are Elvar Ólafsson and Helga Kolbrún Magnúsdóttir.

Elvar is a business administrator and a father of three. He got hooked on axe throwing while travelling to Canada in the fall of 2017.
Helga Kolbrún is a computer scientist and a multiple Icelandic champion in archery. She got introduced to axe throwing in New Zealand while competing in archery and also got hooked. On the company's board we also have Rannveig Magnúsdóttir, a biologist, Elvar's girlfriend and Helga's sister.

Axe throwing is a very fun and powerful sport. For a few years it has been a part of the schedule for Skógarleikarnir (e. Forest games) in Heiðmörk but no other formal competitions have been held. We would really like to change that! There has been a lot of interest among the people who have come to us to start practicing and competing.

We follow international rules and regulations for the setup of lanes, safety and scoring. There are many international competitions and it would be great to have Icelandic representatives. Before that can happen we first need to build up a team and have regular practices and league competitions. We would like to be able to offer good training facilities for those who want to practice.

Axe throwing league
The league lasts for 8 weeks! 4 matches per night and playoffs in week 8.

The facilities
Our indoor setup is in Hafnarfjörður, Hjallahraun 9. There we have two lanes that each can take 12 people so in total we can have groups up to 24 at the same time. Each lane has two targets and people compete two at a time. Normally for bigger groups we have two teams that compete against each other. In the end we have semifinals and finals until one winner is left. The lanes have not been named yet and two lucky sponsors can have the honor of helping us find the perfect names.

Outdoor axe throwing
During our warm summers it can be a lot of fun playing around outdoors with the axes and that is perfect for very large groups. We made two outdoor targets that we can take almost anywhere and that is perfect for big team building events or country festivals. But to do this properly we need a cart to transport the targets.

The axes
We use Hultafors axes. Hultafors is a swedish company that make all kinds of tools. These axes are also for sale as well as T-shirts with our logo.

Next steps
We want to make axe throwing a new sport in Iceland and send our best axe throwers to international competitions. For this to become a reality, we need to build a strong and well trained group of axe throwers and plan practice hours and competitions. We also need to get a cart so we can move our outdoor targets around the country next summer for big teams.
