Further Information

The Thirteen Brothers of Iceland

The story of the Yule lads has evolved and changed through generations of storytellers in Iceland, in this book we have listed all of their known tendencies and funny little quirks based on memory and detailed research into their history. María Elínardóttir, our writer, grew up knowing these characters by heart as she listened to her parents and grandparents tell the tale every year. Later as she grew older she would tell the same story to her younger siblings. This story has grown with most Icelanders, shared from generation to generation, we are very excited to represent this incredible tale.

The book will be around 70 pages of illustrations and text.

WE NEED YOU

You play the most important role in making this great children's story come to life, by funding this project you will not only be contributing to the making of this book, but you will also have helped us start a brand new adventure in creating new and mysterious stories from all over the world. If you happen to have heard a great story about your town or that cane in your grandmothers' closet, please don't hesitate to contact us at baldurpublishing@gmail.com

A book could be the most valuable gift you can give your child. It's not just a book, it can become a fond memory, an interactive bond between a child and a story and a great creative inspiration for years to come.

FUTURE GOALS OF BALDUR

Our little publishing house focuses on mythological stories from all over the world. We want to present international collaborations between writers and illustrators, creating beautiful and unique visual stories for children and of course adults with a taste for culture.

We decided to use karolinafund to be able to offer the best version of this story as we possibly can and so that what our illustrator has created can be fully enjoyed in high quality print that will last for years to come.

THE BALDUR TEAM

We are Martin Atanasov and María. Four years ago we met during our university studies in Prague, where we still live with our two dogs, Vetur and Ada his two-month-old daughter.

Martin was born in Sofia, Bulgaria in 1991. In 2010 he graduated in Printmaking from the National School of Fine Arts “Iliya Petrov”, Sofia. He completed his BA degree in Photography at the Film and Television School of the Academy of the Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU) in 2014. If his education isn't exciting enough he also happens to be almost two meters tall and an excellent dancer.

María was born in Reykjavík, Iceland in 1988. In 2013 she completed her BA degree in photography and is now finishing her MA studies at the Film and Television School of the Academy of the Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU). Though she isn't nearly as tall as her publishing partner Martin, she makes up for it with her sense of humour and incredible banana bread.

Our fantastic illustrator for this book is Hristo Neykov from Bulgaria graduated from the Department of Book and Printed Graphics in Sofia. His work is mainly focused on captivating and showing folklore and mythological aspects of the Bulgarian culture, expressed through illustrations and text, which he collects or finds. His interest in our story was immediate and we were very lucky to have him work with us on our first big project.

Additionally we would like to thank Kaya Barlas our Turkish collaborator for his help and support.
