Further Information

--- English description below ---

Árið 2013 gerði Alma heimildamyndina Maður verður að vera flottur (You Have to Look Good), sem var sýnd á kvikmyndahátíðinni Reykjavík Shorts & Docs. Myndin hlaut góðar viðtökur á hátíðinni og hefur nú verið valin til að taka þátt í Alþjóðlegri kvikmyndahátíð kvenna, WIFF (Women's International Film & Arts Festival), á Miami í vor.

Alma vinnur að fleiri heimildamyndum, en jafnframt því að vinna að lokafrágangi heimildamyndar um hernámsárin á Íslandi, er hún með mynd um sjúkdóminn HIV í smíðum, sem ber vinnutitilinn HIV á Íslandi.

--- English description ---

My name is Alma Ómarsdóttir and I am working on a documentary about the so-called “situation” in Iceland during World War II and how the Icelandic government treated the “situation girls”.The film is almost ready for screening, but I need funding for post-production.

I hope you can participate in this project with me, and I look forward to sharing it with you.

About the film:

The film is a full-length documentary and is built on extensive research by the author. The scene is Reykjavik during World War II, when the British and American army occupied the country. It covers the so-called “situation” in Iceland, which is a term that was used to define relations between Icelandic women and the occupying army. It tells of how the government reacted to the “situation” and how they treated the so called “situation girls”. I plan on issuing an English version of the film as well, for foreign distribution.

About the film-maker:

Alma Ómarsdóttir has a Masters degree in Journalism from the University of Iceland. She’s a Journalist for the National Broadcast Service in Iceland (RUV), where she writes and delivers news on the air, on television and on other outlets. Her passion is making documentaries, where she focuses mainly on social issues.

In 2013 Alma made the short documentary You Have to Look Good, which was screened on the 2013 Reykjavik Shorts & Docs Film Festival, where it received good review. The film was chosen to be screened at the Women's International Film & Arts Festival (WIFF) in Miami this spring.

Alma is currently working on other projects, such as a full-length documentary about the history of HIV in Iceland.
