New Faces of Iceland is an anthropological photography project exploring an emerging generation of Icelanders in an otherwise genetically homogenous nation.
60 people took part of this photography book project over the last 18 months.
All of them are from Iceland and from somewhere else.
More than 25 nationalities are represented.
They all have a different story to tell.
George Leite is a Brazilian photographer living in Iceland since 1998. His photography has always focused on individualities—what people have to say, what their story is—and photography needs no words to express these.
He's the one at the origin of this project.
Anaïs Barthe is a French graphic designer living in Iceland for 3 years.
She's collaborating with George in mostly all his works. She follows the project since the beginning. She's in charge of the design of the book.
"I can say that as a foreigner, I feel that I am a part of the Icelandic society. I was raised in one culture as a child and adopted another as a young adult, both influencing who I am. I have a daughter who is Icelandic and Brazilian. But I keep asking myself how people like her with two different backgrounds deal with the question, "Where do you come from?". This project is more than a statement. It is a door to open to another perspective about Icelandic society as it is today and as it is evolving."
- George Leite
George met over 60 people for the project. He interviewed and took pictures of them.
The content of the book is ready.
Now we need you to give another dimension to the project.
The idea always has been to produce a photography book, help us to make it real!
The book will be a beautiful and valuable object for Icelandic society.
The text will be written in Icelandic and English but the pictures will talk much more.
An exhibition will be organized with the photographies from the book for its release.
