What is this project about?

This project is about realizing my first solo album. "Urges" is an album with 11 songs that came to me during a rough time in my life. I guess this is a break-up album in a way...

Usually I write and release most of my music with my various bands. I live for my bands, but this particular project is something that I had to do on my own.

Why do I need funding?

I'm doing all the work on my own (recording, engineering, editing) to keep the cost down. But I do need help to tackle the rent for the studio that I am using, as well as the cost for mixing and mastering.

But there is also another reason why I'm turning to KF: when you're alone in a studio every night for hours and hours, it is really motivating and inspiring to know that there are good people out there excited and waiting to hear the finished result. Your support will be helpful in so many ways besides just money!

Ragnar Ólafsson is a versatile musician, multi-instrumentalist and composer from Iceland. He has released one dozen albums with various bands and performed music in styles ranging from jazz and opera to folk, pop, rock and metal.

Ragnar’s affinity for forming and playing with bands started when he grew up in Gothenburg, Sweden. In early years he went through a colorful palette of bands and band-members which included Olof Dreijer(from the Knife) and singer-songwriter Jens Lekman. After High School Ragnar moved to Svalbard where he worked for two years while building the world’s northern-most band at the time. After moving back to Iceland in 2003 Ragnar started studying singing and electronic music at Tónlistarskóli Kópavogs and supported himself as a cover artist, troubador and jazz pianist before making his living from his own music.

Ragnar is a founding member of several Icelandic bands. Most notably Ask the Slave, In Siren as well as his most commercially successful act Árstíðir who has released four studio albums to date, had two #1 hits in Iceland and toured regularly in more than 30 countries. Ragnar is also the lead vocalist ofLightspeed Legend, and a keyboardist for Momentum and Sign.

Timeplan for this project:

- Recordings will be completed by January 1st.

- Mixing and Mastering will be ready by February 1st and everyone who funded the project will get the album.

- The B-sides, and all the extra rewards will be ready and sent by March 1st.

- The album will be mixed by Ragnar Zólberg in R&R Studio in Oslo Norway.
