Naustið is a family run seafood restaurant in Húsavík, owned by us, Ella and Inga. We pride our selfes in using high quality local seafood and vegetables to serve good, honest and delicious meals. We have been open during summer time since 2011 and we have loved every minute of it. In a new secure location we hope to be able to stay open longer during wintertime and provide our community with different and fun events.

This year our lease runs out and it looked like Naustið would become homeless. Húsavík is a small town with population of 2.800. Needless to say houses fit for a restaurant are hard to find. But we were lucky and stumbled upon a beautiful old house, Sel, that had been empty for some years. We immediately fell in love with Sel and felt that we could help each other. By saving Sel, Sel would save Naustið. We realized it would be very costly to renovate an old house, but with help from family members, friends and local professionals we optimistically aim to open a new Naust in spring 2016.

However Sel, like most old houses, was not designed for wheelchair accessibility. For the last five years we have been able to welcome every one at Naustið, and we feel that our new housing has to do that as well. It turned out that providing wheelchair accessible wc in the house is impossible. The only way is to build an add on in the back of the house. This cost was unforeseen and not in our original budget.

We went ahead and had the new building designed and are determined to start the project and take it as far as possible this year. But unless we receive some help, this will sadly end up on our „long term list“. With your help we might be able to take this project off the „long term list“, maybe even finish it this year. So by helping us saving Sel and Naustið, you will be helping us to offer access for everyone. That would make us both thankful and proud.

We belive that in order for small buisnesses such as ours, located in a small society to thirve, we all have to help each other out. We have to support each other and welcome those who choose to visit us. Our concept has always been to serve good, affordable quality food, in a friendly and beautiful surroundings. That will never change.
