Ýr Þrastardóttir

Fashion designer Ýr Þrastardóttir was born in Oslo, Norway, in 1984 where her parents were both graduate students.
She moved to Iceland at the age of five and grew up in Reykjavík.
After graduating high school she entered the Icelandic Academy of the Arts and graduated with a bachelor degree from the design department in 2011. Her graduation project attracted a lot of media attention and as a result she founded her own fashion design company, YR COLLECTIONS

She took part in the opening of Kiosk design store on Laugavegur with eight young fashion designers who sell only Icelandic creations.

Ýr was selected out of her graduating class to participate on behalf of Iceland in DESIGNERS NEST during Copenhagen Fashion Week in 2011.
Demand for her design caused her to manufacture her graduation collection which was sold in Kiosk, Iceland.

Ýr has participated three times at the REYKJAVIK FASHION FESTIVAL, 2011, 2012 and 2015. She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, worked in film, theater and with the Icelandic Dance Company.

Yr founded an innovative start-up company, ANOTHER CREATION, with two women colleagues in 2013. The company was selected out of 200 applicants to participate in StartupReykjavik, a mentor-driven seed stage investment program. See link:

Following the StartUp, ANOTHER CREATION was chosen to participate in the CREATIVE BUSINESS CUP in autumn 2013 and got special awards for outstanding combination of creative power and commercial know how.

The first complete collection of ANOTHER CREATION was presented at REYKJAVIK FASHION FESTIVAL in the spring of 2015 and was enormously well received. Production of the collection is done in Italy and it will be available in Iceland and online this fall. The clothing brand has been offered to exhibit at the BERLIN ALTERNATIVE FASHION WEEK.
