Ásþór á Samfés 2015

Ásþór Loki er 16 ára og hefur spilað á gítar í 7 ár. Hann og bróðir hans Þórarinn Þeyr búa í Hlíðunum í Reykjavík og stofnuðu hljómsveitina Meistara Dauðans árið 2011 ásamt félaga sínum Alberti.

Ásþór leggur mikið upp úr því að vera skapandi. Þótt allir leggi sitt til þá semur hann flest lög og texta Meistara Dauðans.

Tónlistarnám

Æfingin skapar Meistarann.

Ásþór fékk inngöngu í Tónlistarskóla FÍH haustið 2014 og er þar í einkatímum, í tónfræði, tónheyrn og svo samspili en það kallast það þegar kennari setur saman hljómsveit í upphafi vetrar og þjálfar hana fram á vor. Við FÍH er fyrst og fremst kenndur djass og blús og saman skilar þetta miklu.

Hér er klippa frá samspilstónleikum fyrr í vetur þar sem Þórarinn bróðir Ásþórs var gestaleikari á trommunum.

Áhrifavaldar

Af erlendum hljómsveitum heldur Ásþór mest upp á eldri hljómsveitir eins og Metallica, Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Nirvana, White Stripes og Rage Against The Machine. Þær íslensku hljómsveitir sem eru í mestu uppáhaldi eru Jónas Sig og Ritvélar Framtíðarinnar, Dimma,Skálmöld og Hjálmar en þeir spila allt sem að kjafti kemur.

Hér er til dæmis skot af æfingunni þar sem þeir bræður prófuðu lagið Rúdolf eftir Þey í fyrsta skipti.

Fjölbreytt tilvera

Ásþór Loki leggur stund á ýmislegt fyrir utan tónlistina. Hann fór snemma að skrifa sögur og eftir hann liggja nú þegar þrjár fantasíubækur. Einnig hefur hann stundað júdó síðan hann varð sjö ára og er margfaldur Íslands- og Bandaríkjameistari í sínum flokki. Hann er stigahæstur keppenda í sínum flokki á Íslandi og hér kastar hann mun stærri andstæðing á alþjóðlegu móti í Danmörku 2013 (01:30).

Ásþór var hljómsveitarstjóri í uppfærslu söngleikjauppfærslu unglingadeildar Hlíðaskóla vorið 2015 en hann útskrifast núna í vor og stefnir á nám í Menntaskólanum við Hamrahlíð samhliða námi í FÍH.

Ásþór Loki is 16 years and has played the guitar for 7 years. He and his brother, Þórarinn Þeyr, live in the neighbourhood Hlíðar in Reykjavík and founded the band Meistarar Dauðans in 2011 with their friend Albert.

Ásþór is very creative. Even though they all contribute he is the one who writes most of the songs and lyrics of Meistarar Dauðans.

Music studies

Practice makes perfect.

Ásþór got admitted into the prestigioius Music school of FÍH in the autumn 2014 where he has private lessons, studies musicology and pitch and participates in a practice band. Practice bands are founded in the beginning of a school year by a teacher who then trains it throughout the winter.

FÍH emphasizes jazz and blues studies which seems to be a great combination with the rock music of Meistarar Dauðans.

The video clip above is from a jazz concert at FIH where the rehearsal band is playing. Þórarinn, Ásþórs brother who also got admitted into FIH, stepped in as a guest drummer for this occasion.

Influences

Among foreign bands Ásþórs likes older groups like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Nirvana, White Stripes and Rage Against the Machine. Of Icelandic music his favourites are Jónas Sig og Ritvélar Framtíðarinnar, Dimma, Skálmöld and Hjálmar.

Meistarar Dauðans play all kinds of music. Here is for example a clip of when they tried the song Rudolf by the 80s band Þeyr for the first time.

Ásþór's many facets

Ásþór Loki spends his time on many other things apart from the music. At an early age he started writing stories and has published three fantasy books.

In addition he has practiced the martial art of Judo from the age of 7 and has won multiple national Icelandic and USA championships in the junior categories. He is the highest ranking judoka in his category in Iceland. Here he throws a much bigger opponent at an international tournament in Denmark 2013 (it's a good fight all-in-all, you can shuffle to 01.30 for the throw)

Ásþór was the band leader in a musical staged by the teenagers in Hlíðaskóli in the spring 2015 but this is his last year there. He intends to study at Hamrahlíð College next winter in addition to his music studies in FÍH.
