Further Information

For the past decade nearly a thousand Icelandic women received tangible education for their own empowerment in the course Mattur kvenna (e. Women´s Empowerment) at Bifrost University.

The course has been adjusted to the conditions of the underpriviledged women in Bashay village in North Tanzania. The aim is to equip the women with tools to help them identify businessopportunities in their microenvironment and the ability to carry it forward.

Research has shown unambiguously that the best way to reduce child malnutrition is to educate their mothers. The whole family benefits from job creation for women, it benefits the household, provides access to health care, and above all it contributes to the education of children which is the key to success for the future.

In April three teachers from Bifröst University went to Tanzania where they stayed for two weeks and helped the women set up a business plan and provided them with the tools they need to establish their own business. All these women have an idea that they want to execute, but they do not have the tools nor the skills required. The course went great and now they are calling for more education and help to start their businesses.

Phase one was funded by Bifröst University, Tanzanice Farm, Íslandsbanki, Bernhard Laxdal og Icelandic Group. This next phase is funded by Bifröst University and Tanzanice Farm but unfortunately that is not enough, therefore we are asking for your support. Help us help these women. We need financial support to continue with our project, what we want to do is the following:

Another course for the women who already attended the first course to help them carry out their business plan

A course for a new group of women who were not able to be with us last time

To have financial resources to help these women start their businesses

These women have no money and no hope of getting a loan. If they won't get financial help they won't be able to carry out their projects and then they remain stuck in poverty. With their own business activity they will be able to support themselves and their families and will be less reliant on their husbands.

Should we raise € 7.000 we will be able to conduct another course for the women who already attended our first course in Tanzania as well as conduct a course for a new group of women (estimated cost € 4.500). Everything additional, € 2.500, will be used to fund the projects of the women.

Should we raise € 11.000 we aim to add one teacher. That teacher would conduct a course in crafts as many of the women have ideas to start a business involving jewlery, knitting or making handmade ornaments. The course cost is estimated € 6.500, the rest € 4.500 goes directly to funding the projects of the women.

Should we raise € 15.000 we will start working on establishing an entreprenurial center in Bashay!
