Chamber Choir of the North is fundraising for the production of a new album.

The album will contain the choir's repertoire from last winter, where new and older compositions to Davíð Stefánsson's poems were sung. For the occasion of celebrating the choir's 20th operating year, the choir connected their repertoire with the 100th publishing anniversary of Davíð Stefánsson's book of poetry, Black Feathers.
Chamber Choir of the North's contribution to innovation and culture is amongst other things production of music and live concerts.
Benefits of this project are artistic, cultural benefits where the choir continues to promote innovation in Icelandic compositions, as well as making a valuable contribution to Icelandic culture with their recordings and preserving of new compositions to Davíð Stefánsson's poems. That way the choir is supporting UN's Sustainable Development Goals 11.4: Strengthen efforts to protect and safeguard the world’s cultural and natural heritage.

The project's objective:
To preserve new and older choir compositions to Davíð Stefánsson's poems from his book of poetry, Black Feathers, with recordings and publishing.
To perform new, ambitious choir compositions to enrich Iceland's culture, both with concerts and publication of Icelandic music.

About the choir
Chamber Choir of the North was established in autumn 1998 and the first concert held in 1999. For the last several years the choir has put focus on Icelandic compositions and some have been written especially for the choir. The choir consists of singers from all over the North, from Kópasker in the east to Sauðárkrókur to the west. The group consists of people who are educated singers and musicians, which makes it possible to rehearse in cycles and work systematically despite scattered residence. To be able to sing in a group like this is valuable and rewarding for musicians in the area even though they have to travel long distances to make that happen. Through the years, the choir has contributed to the culture of the Northeast Region with diverse concerts, participation in large musical projects f.ex. with the North Iceland Symphony Orchestra and with publications of music.
The choir's conductor is Mr. Guðmundur Óli Gunnarsson and he has successfully worked with the choir for many years.

Guðmundur Óli studied orchestral conducting in the Netherlands and in Helsinki, Finland. He was the leading conductor of North Iceland Symphony Orchestra from 1992 to 2015 and worked for the Icelandic Opera for 5 years as a conductor and music director. Guðmundur Óli has conducted both amateur and professional choirs and has been Chamber Choir of the North's conductor since the year 2000.

The recording team
Eyþór Ingi Jónsson, producer
After his kantor degree at Tónskóli Þjóðkirkjunnar (Iceland), Eyþór Ingi studied church music with emphasis of choir conducting and organ playing and later organ playing at the Piteå School of Music in Sweden. He is an organist at Akureyri Church, teacher at Tónskóli Þjóðkirkjunnar, the conductor for Hymnodia Choir and an independent musician. Eyþór Ingi has produced and conducted choirs for several albums.

Håkan Ekman, recording engineer
Håkan is born in Finland but lives in Sweden for 20 years back. He has studied sound engineering and music at the Music School in Piteå, Sweden, and in the Tonmeister Institut in Detmold, Germany.
Håkan is specified in the recording of classical music and especially in choir recording. He has recorded some 30 CDs for different labels in all Nordic countries.

Gunnar Andersson, editing
Gunnar is former producer and director for the Swedish Radio Choir. During his work at the Swedish Radio, he has produced a large number of recordings and worked closely with Eric Ericson.
Today, Gunnar is a freelance producer and singer with projects in Sweden and abroad.
