What's so exciting about Vegdís?

Vegdís has all the the features of any normal home, only packed into only 18 square meters, and ready to travel with you on the road!

Vegdís is small in size, yet big in layout and capacity. While Vegdís may be small compared to a classic apartment, it is large compared to a classic caravan.

The Vegdís prototype is 8 meters in length, but will also be available in a 6 meter edition. The most important part of Vegdís is to have a house that is both comfortable and affordable, whiled providing all the necessities.

Vegdís contains all the facilities that we are accustomed to in a modern apartment; sleeping space, kitchen, bathroom, etc. Vegdís is designed with a focus on aesthetic, atmosphere and practicality. When entering Vegdís, you feel like you've entered a small apartment, but on wheels!

Vegdís is built and produced in Iceland and will be available for purchase as soon as we finish our prototype.

What makes Vegdís so special?

Vegdís is very lightweight, strong, and maintenance free - perfect for any type of adventure. It´s the first house on wheels built with fiberglass (that we know of), weighing in at less than 3.500 kg. It´s weight paired with an ideal tire and wheel set up, allows every owner to enjoy the freedom of travel, independence, and a nomadic lifestyle. This means anyone with a B+E or C1+E drivers license can tow the house (with the appropriate car).

Vegdís adheres to the exact same regulations as any classic caravan. As any mobile home, it needs to be registered and receive regular inspection for road safety. Vegdís is also in the same category as a classic caravan for financing and insurance.

Vegdís can easily be used off-grid. It is compact, energy efficient, extremely well isolated, and easy to heat - all with a layout designed to maximise comfort and living space. Residents of the Tiny House quickly reduce their carbon footprint.

The story behind Vegdís

I have lived in my old Tiny House on wheels for almost 2 years, which is only 13 square meters (pictured above). This older model is built using normal building materials, which are much heavier than the new and improved fiberglass models. The older model is also the first Tiny House on wheels in Iceland (that we know of) and has proven itself to be an efficient and effective traveler in the Icelandic weather and terrain.

It may sound small, but 13 square meters are more than enough for myself. I´ve often had friends over for a drink, and their kids always mention that it looks like a fairytale house.

My initial plan was to make one house for myself so that I could live anywhere I wanted, whenever I wanted. As soon as I started telling others about my plan and lifestyle, they encouraged me to take it a step further, until I finally decided to begin production for others. I'm eternally grateful to my supportive friends that have pushed me to get to where we are now.
