Further Information

Three women called Ingibjörg merge in one Ingibjörg, one mind, one sound.
A memorable musical experience where poems by Ingibjörg Haraldsdóttir are woven into the soundscape of singer Ingibjörg Fríða and composer Ingibjörg Ýr. You will hear the Icelandic folk instrument langspil, as well as the piano, clarinet, electric sounds, kalimbas, harmonium and, of course, voices.

"The performance offered by this talented pair of Ingibjörgs had us all spellbound with a style that is as difficult to classify as easy to enjoy. They deliver a powerful and mesmerizing mix of ancient and contemporary sounds with an approach which moves seamlessly between the traditional and the experimental"
-Francisco Javier Jáuregui

THE PROJECT

This project started in 2014 when the first song was written. Then we have had a few creative periods, with most of the songs written in the fall of 2019. Today we have 16 finished songs.
In this video you can hear the premiere of the first song in the cycle, and also the title song for the album - Konan í speglinum. This recording is from 2015.

With your help...

...we can record and release our music into the world. The dream is to release a CD but also a songbook, with detailed notation of each song, illustrated in watercolor.

ILLUSTRATIONS

Illustrations and artwork for both the album and the songbook will be made by artist and stage director, Anna Katrín Einarsdóttir. For the past few years she has been working mostly with drawings and watercolor.

We, the Ingibjörgs, both experience music in color, textures and patterns. The songs on the album all have their own color. We would like to share that vision in illustrated musical score of the songs, using mostly watercolor.

Here is an example of the work Anna Katrín has done:

INGIBJÖRG HARALDSDÓTTIR

Ingibjörg Haraldsdóttir (1942-2016) was a well known and productive poet and translator in Iceland. Her first collection of poems, Þangað vil ég fljúga, was published in 1974. She released six collections of poems that have been translated to Hungarian, German, Latvian, Lithuanian, Bulgarian, Russian, Slovakian, English and Scandinavian languages. She got many rewards for her writings and translations as well as two nominations for the Nordic Council Literature Prize.

We, the duo Ingibjargir, have written songs to poems from almost all her collections so the poems on the album will span most of her career as a poet.

Live recordings of three of our songs. Recorded in the Siglufjörður folk festival in 2018:
