TO ESTABLISH FAIR TRADE COOPERATION WITH LOCAL FARMERS IN UGANDA TO EMPOWER WOMEN WORKING IN THE COFFEE PRODUCTION

I am Karim Birimumaso, a father of four children, a professional hairdresser, beautician and an actor. living in Iceland for the past 10 years. Born and raised in the coffee region, a town called Ebanda in Uganda. Raised by my grandparents, I grew up working in their small coffee farm that they owned. Born between a Christian and the Muslim family, My Mom was forced by her own parent to leave me behind at the age of six months old with my father because he did not share the same faith.

Overview

This campaign could help so many people out of poverty, e.g single mothers, since we would create jobs and educate women who would come and work for us. We also would try to use a percentage of future profits to give back to the community by investing the money back in the Ibanda area.

Short Summary

I'm Karim Birimumaso, founder of Farmers Friends, born in western Uganda in a place called IBANDA in year 1982.I’m 37yrs old kennitala 1012825039 I am Karim Birimumaso, a father of four children, a professional hairdresser, beautician and an actor. As an actor I work with many Icelandic casting companies e.g Reykjavik studio and Eskimo Models etc.I was raised by my grandparents, Who were farmers specialised in coffee growing, processing and exporting- mainly to other neighbouring counties. This gave me good knowledge about coffee and farming at large.I later moved to Iceland in year 2010 with my Icelandic girlfriend. Growing up, women in my country were just stay at home mothers and help to farmers. Women in general never owned anything and worse, had a good market for the little products they could get into their hands eg coffee,so basically we need to create more jobs for these women in order to stop early marriages, and violence done against them because they have no free speech. Please join me as we save our sisters and mothers from poverty.

The project costs are very difficult to calculate. It will be necessary to pay farmers for their product, machinery, shipment costs, salaries, overhead, travel expenses and other unexpected costs. In Kampala it will be necessary to rent a warehouse, buy some machines to process the coffee and hire a few workers to package and deliver the end product. This is something that I will personally see to once in Uganda. Since I know how things work there I can manage to do this in advance.

I would hope to be able to export at least one 20 ft container with coffee to start with, but it could be more. The cost structure is expected to be around 65 to 85.000 USD. In my view this initial investment would pay off in 3 to 4 years, since I expect good sales already by the end of the year. Companies already willing to do business are: Iceland stores, Reykjavík Roasters, and Costco has also shown a big interest - however they would like to buy really big amounts. With these companies aboard, it is just a question of supplying the goods at the right time. The investment will surely pay off.

Besides aiming to break-even we want to empower women that will work for us, make a difference, take them out of poverty or abusive relationships. A change that will also affect the community positively.

Empower women in the coffee production in Uganda.

Our aim is to empower women in rural areas of the country, using coffee production as our tool.

This campaign could help so many people out of poverty, e.g single mothers, since we would create jobs and educate women who would come and work for us. We also would try to use a percentage of future profits to give back to the community by investing the money back in the Ibanda area.
