In East Iceland there are many tempting mountains for hiking enthusiasts. In fact, the area is sometimes called East-Iceland Alps. When the weather is good, a hike on one of the East Fjord mountains is an unforgettable experience. Now, travellers have a chance to get a book that will bring them closer. The book offers:

a) Evaluation of trails by difficulty (level 1 to 5)

b) Standard information for 101 mountain trails, which makes it easier to choose before starting off.

c) A QR code, to be scanned on a smart device to see a tracked trail on Wikiloc.

d) An exact description of each route, the location of the start of the walk and the route.

e) See the above description of a small map in the book.

(f) Photos with views of the mountains and their surroundings.

Top peaks - East Iceland was first published in Icelandic, in 2016 by Bókstafur Publishing, situated in Egilsstaðir, at the heart of East Iceland. The author, Skúli Júlíusson, has been working as a mountain guide in the area since 2009. He has collected information and photos on these 101 hiking trail in his travels and is one of the most experienced mountaineer, that has specialised in the area. The book is now being published in the translation of Philip Vogler, another pioneer in his field, in the area, but he has been running the translation company Islingua from Egilsstaðir for years.

This is an example of a description of one page. On the top are a map showing the location in East Iceland and basic information, like level of difficulty and such. On the bottom of the first page there is a map of the trail, and on it a QR-code that will lead a smart device on a tracked trail on Wikiloc, if scanned.

Skúli Júlíusson has gained a good reputation as one of the most experienced mountain guides in East Iceland. He has completed a qualification study in mountaineering, and has been guiding in East Iceland for a decade.

Skúli moved to Egilsstaðir at a young age, then already used to hiking with his grandparents. He has lived in Egilsstaðir since 1985 and has always been a hiking enthusiast. In addition to working as a mountain guide, he founded the hiking club Fjallhress, but they have been untiring in finding mountains to hike in the last years. Even on mountains that were supposedly "impossible" to hike!
