My name is Magnús Máni Hafþórsson, 21, and i am the founder of BLACKGLACIER, which I built from 16,000 kr. to the company it is today. I feel responsability as a manufacturer and company owner to our customers and our environment. It is incredibly easy to run a company today with high pollution, whether it is conscious or not, and I believe as induviduals we do not understand the effects we have on our environment.

BLACKGLACIER wants to have a positive impact on the environment and demonstrates it by providing customers with environmentally friendly products from recycled materials. We have already designed products made from recycled fish nets and other textile waste that has been removed from our oceans or would have ended there. ECONYL® is the material we used for our first products. It is a regenerated yarn produced by an Italian Company which is leader in the Circular Economy and it is made by recovering nylon waste - such as fishing nets from ocean and aquaculture, fabric scraps from mills and carpets destined for landfills - and turning it into virgin quality nylon yarn for the fashion industry. This way we help cleaning the oceans.

With the use of this material and others yet to come, we tackle two major problems, the pollution that comes from manufacturing andutilize fiber made from otherwise unusable materials. Thus we prevent andclean.

We call our new products Sustainable Activewear. Once theproducts from us have finished their life cycle, they can be recycled andconverted again to activewear or anything else like carpeting, flooring orwallcoverings. The same applies to our packaging, all packaging is made ofkraft paper that is biodegradable in nature and our products are immediatelypacked in this packaging by the manufacturer and ready for delivery tocustomers. This way we close the ring and can call us a Sustainable Activewearbrand.

We will be the forefront of sustainable activewear in Iceland and become a model for other brands.

This is only the beginning, the next step is to design more products from this material and utilize more materials and methods such as recycled plastic bottles or otherwise unusable waste and textile byproduct that would otherwise have gone to landfill.
