Further Information

The idea that we’ve been carrying around with us for a long time is to develop extremely nutritious drinks from the powerful Icelandic healing herbs for the Sisterhood Bliss Bar.

Drinks made of blueberries, Icelandic moss, crowberries, all sorts of medicinal mushrooms and many other exciting herbs that we call ‘THE GREEN GOLD’. They are certainly an overlooked resource. While building the infrastructure of the Sisterhood Bliss Bar we dream of creating a travelling bar from the old bar table in the cabin that the Sisterhood Cafe was run from originally in Seltjarnarnes, a house which will soon be demolished.

The Bliss Bar is our idea of an extension to the Sisterhood Café. A way to serve goods in the garden behind the café or on the street in front of it and to travel with it even further.

There’s a revolution underway in the culture of drinks around the world with the headline “a drink is also food”. With our sincere interest in deeper nutrition for the masses at heart we sisters have been developing new and exciting drinks from foreign medicinal herbs with good results. Drinks from known herbs such as turmeric, hibiscus and cacao from Guatemala.

Now we ache do expand the horizon and develop similar drinks from the powerful icelandic healing herbs, the treasure that we have. We are certain in our hearts that such drinks would suit well to the traveling Bliss Bar. The Bliss Bar which will have hot and cold herbal drinks and furthermore great coffee drinks and delicious sides. This way it becomes more likely for healthy, tasty and powerful medicinal herbs to be a part of people’s everyday consumption.

Develop, grind, dry and try

The process is like this; first we must find and gather the most powerful of icelandic herbs, then we develop, grind and dry them. Next, we try them out at our café on Óðinsgata with the assistance of experts and finally use it on our traveling Bliss Bar which we see so clearly in our future and hope to introduce at the Culture night in Reykjavík. The next step -if all goes well- is to package them for common consumption.
For this old dream of ours to become reality and to become useful for as many as possible in the future we look to you for support and strength.

Some of our inspirations in all of this are the organically certified pine forests in Lapland which give much raw material for powerful drink products which have caught the attention of the world. InIceland we can gain access to organically certified birch forests where many plants and berries thrive.

About the Sisterhood

The Sisterhood is a a small family owned organic café and healthstore in Reykjavík. It opened in Seltarnarnes 2013 and moved downtown Reykjavík early 2017.
We, the Sisters and founders of the company have been passionate health lovers for many years. Our ambition lies in selling only top quality health, environmental friendly café and health product for the mind, body and spirit, as well as vitamin, herbs, cosmetics, yoga products, Flothetta and more.

Behind the Sisterhood are two sisters; Jóhanna and Guðrún. Jóhanna, the younger one, worked at the biggest health chain in Iceland (Heilsuhúsið) for 25 years. At the beginning as saleswoman, then store manager, product manager, purchasing manager and at last as manager of operations. The older sister, Guðrún, worked as journalist and editor for several newspapers and magazines in Iceland for years, also as PR manager at Reykjavík Arts Festival.
