VaVaVoom Theatre's visual performance Breaking News was premiered at the National Theater of Iceland in October 2012 and was also a part of the off venue program at Iceland Airwaves. The show was nominated for Newcomer of the Year (VaVaVoom) and Music of the Year (sóley) at the Icelandic Performing Arts Awards this summer and was highly received by critics, including a five star review from Fréttablaðið daily "an absolute delight for both ears and eyes" (Elísabet Brekkan).

Breaking News has now been selected for Summerhall Theatre’s August Festival as a part of Edinburgh Fringe Festival on August 2nd - 26th, which is the first step in touring the show internationally. The Edinburgh Fringe is the largest arts festival in the world, where bookers, critics and festival directors travel to see new performances every year. The Fringe Festival offers great exposure, but the artists must fund their own participation. Therefore we reach out to you for support , so we can transport our set, props, puppets gear, instruments and ourselves!!

About Breaking News

Watch it, hear it, read it, stream it. Do it all at once. We’re all plugged in and wired up to the news and its ticker-tape is ticking all day and all night. But is all this news good for us? In Breaking News, VaVaVoom takes its audience into an inventive and original world of puppets, pop-up sets, live soundscapes and evocative video landscapes. This multimedia devised performance is a journey into our intimate surreality that asks us: when does information become too much information? Live original music performed by acclaimed Icelandic artist, sóley.

,,The cherry on top is certainly the live soundscape created by Icelandic musician Sóley Stefánsdóttir as well as the beautifully crafted set design (...) Long story short, Breaking News is a witty, entertaining and lovely piece and a true visual delight.“ (Katharina Hauptmann, Iceland Review)

About VaVaVoom Theatre

VaVaVoom is a visual theater company, based in London and Reykjavík. VaVaVoom was founded in 2011 by Sara Martí (director, actress, musician) and S. Sunna Reynisdóttir (puppetry and performance artist, musician) who met while studying at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London.

VaVaVoom’s work ranges from puppetry and object theater, to stagings of contemporary plays, to devised physical theater. Drawing from a wide variety of influences we combine puppetry, text, animation, dance, music and innovative scenography with experimental storytelling.

VaVaVoom is an interdisciplinary collective. Frequent collaborators include artists from a variety of backgrounds: film makers, video artists, musicians, dancers/choreographers as well as theater practitioners with a broad range of skills.

In 2011 VaVaVoom received the Tallinn Treff Festival awards for Hands Up!

--- Icelandic description ---

VaVaVoom hefur áður unnið sýninguna Hands Up! sem hlaut Tallinn Treff hátíðarverðlaun árið 2011.
