The Play
Selma and Alex meet by chance for the first time in five years, Circumstances force them to look into a devastating past, and to make an attempt to lay their ghosts to rest. They are faced with near impossible questions; are they each prepared to accept responsibility for their actions or are they desperate to hold on to the slightest thread of denial; is it possible to forgive the unforgivable?

Their story gradually unravels and we find out what caused their painful split. We come to realize how they affected each other, and why it is so hard for each of them to get on with their lives. Is it possible to forgive the person you love most in the world when that same person has caused another person’s death by reckless behavior? Is it possible to forgive oneself?

Is it possible to hate someone you love? Can you stop needing her/him? Will there ever be an end to pain?

The play is based on interviews with individuals who know the consequences of DUI first hand. The story is told from the antagonist’s perspective, as well as, the victim’s family’s point of view.

Deep Tracks is a new Verbatim-play on the struggle of love and loss, trauma and the need for forgiveness. It was created by Jenný Lára Arnórsdóttir and Jóel Sæmundsson and is based on true events. Jenný Lára is already versed in creating and producing plays by the Verbatim method. She wrote and acted Elska (Loving), a play based on people’s ideas on love and relationships. Elska was very well received when it was performed in Reykjavík and various locations in Northeast Iceland, as well as, the Act Alone theatre festival in Iceland.

Artik Theatre Company
The Artik Theatre Company was founded in 2012 by Jenný Lára Arnórsdóttir and Unnar Geir Unnarsson. They are both educated as actors and play directors. The Company’s aim is to create plays on topics relevant to the audience and to which people can relate. This is achieved by studying the community and the culture intensely; by scrutinizing which aspects leave the greatest impacts, not least the minute things with the heavy consequences; by digging into the past and realizing which decisions, big and small, have been decisive factors in people’s destinies: by understanding how their lives have unfolded and why.

We constantly ask questions: What do we have in common? What is a universal experience? Can we learn from each other’s experience? Can we learn from our own experience? Are we the creators of our own providence?

Artik is a theatre company focusing on the human condition and destiny. Anything to do with being a human being is relevant to us.
