PROJECT NAME: RURAL WATER ROLLER

PROJECT AIM: To develop, design and produce Rural Water Roller in Kenya.

PROJECT SLOGAN: Role of women in Africa “First to rise last to rest no time for education”

PROJECT HISTORY: I, Pétur Einarsson, first visited Kenya 1989 working there as an international consultant off and on until 1994. During this period I travelled extensively in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. To cut a very long story short: I fell in love with East Africa the climate, culture, flora, fauna and the people. If Heaven on Earth exists then it could be there.
But the hardship and poverty millions of people there have to endure is heartbreaking and sad.
I did not return until October 2015 more than twenty years later. At the return I was both glad and sad filled with the double feeling of nostalgia as all the wonders were still there but - the poverty and misery had not changed much.
How terribly sad!
Being a philanthropic, compassionate elderly gentleman the following thought haunted me: What can I do to help?
Then I saw this wonderful simple but effective innovation: The Rural Water Roller exactly what I visualized: Something to help people to help themselves.
Unfortunately the market price for the unit is around 200 euros when delivered to user from the original producer in South Africa - which is impossible for poor families to pay. But I came across a local company in Kenya which gave me an offer I cannot resist. This company is the only one to produce the item in Kenya.
The Greenlinesolar Company in Suswa Kenya offers me 50 Rural Water Rollers for 100 euros a piece delivered to recipients. Their offer is 50% cheaper than buying from South Africa at least, as delivery is included. The Greenlinesolar Company has already produced more than 300 rollers and delivered to users.
I didn’t hesitate to accept their offer, depending on funding, and through old connections in Kenya I formed a team with two Kenyan ladies and a local gentleman.

PROJECT AIM:
PRIMARY TARGET: TO HELP PEOPLE TO HELP THEMSELVES.

LONG TERM GOAL: Is to have a team emphasizing on fundamental help so people can help themselves in the rural regions of Kenya by providing basic tools, equipment, systems and training.

THE SHORT TERM GOAL: Is to start a team to finance 50 redesigned Rural Water Rollers and deliver them at water wells to women who are fetching water. When we succeed in the first funding we have established the future grounds for the team and its function to improve women’s possibility in the arid regions of Kenya for modern education. If funding is in excess of our target more redesigned rollers will be delivered.
Those who finance one roller will have their name engraved on the roller as owners of that roller and the donor/owner will be sent a picture of recipient, along with address and means of contact - if at all possible.
The donor will therefore be the owner of the roller but gives it on loan for free to the recipient forever.
Donors will have the option of travelling to Kenya at own cost and find the caretaker of the roller and establish personal contact for future friendship which could lead to further good actions for the benefit of both parties.

FINANCING:
Financing will be by Crowd Funding through Karoline fund Iceland. We will seek 5000 euros basically plus 500 euros to cover collection cost at Karoline fund. Total amount sought thus 5.500 euros.
Later aim is to seek from companies finance on same bases as above. Additionally we are preparing webpage for voluntary contribution from the public.
Project team is voluntary work without any salary or payment.

PRODUCTION:
The rollers were initially designed in South Africa. The team has already improved the roller so it can also be used also to carry firewood, crops, luggage or even small children. Production of smaller rollers 45 litres is being prepared for use in hilly landscape. A simple washing machine based on this design is under-way.
Further design is in progress to add a simple charger for cell phones. As mobile phones are very cheap in Kenya they are the modern mean of communication and even very poor people own one or have access to one.
Redesigned Rural Water Rollers are partly in stock and delivery will start as soon when adequate funding is present.

DELIVERY:
First delivery of 3 Rural Water Rollers has already been done financed by the team. So 6% of 50 rollers target is already there.
