Further Information

The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year is a new Icelandic play about our traditions and how they mix with modernity.

We will introduce you to the 13 Icelandic Yule Lads. Back in the days they were the scariest and meanest trolls around, to the point where the then king banned parents from telling stories about them, because it was considered abusive. And now, not that many years later we book Yule Lads to parties and they mostly hand out clementines and candy!

This change from fear to joy is the heart of our play. We all want to enjoy Christmas. So much so that anyone that doesn't is called a grinch. We will be playing with the tension between wanting to enjoy the season, and feeling pressured to do so.

The explosion of travelers has led to our renewed interest in old stories. It is base on that interest that we are making this play. We are exploring the place of old tales in a modern world that has replaced scary trolls with a jolly fellow in red.

The Process

The show is a devised show, meaning that at the start of rehearsals we have no idea what the plot is, or what characters will feature. What we had is an abundance great material and a willingness to be creative. Doing various exercises and through discussions a show slowly emerges.

The Team

All of the cast members trained at Rose Bruford College in London, on the various courses. The idea for the show, was born there when a friend pointed out how crazy some of our old stories were. From there it grew into a play about the tension between legend and the modern world.
