Further Information

Different Rooftops is a composition project that I have been working on since early 2014. The project is inspired by different cities' rooftops and now contains Rooftops of Barcelona, Rooftops of Berlin, Rooftops of Marrakech, Rooftops of Milan and Rooftops of Prague. The album will feature these pieces except for Rooftops of Berlin, that serves more as a visual piece. In addition to these, the album also contains I nostri dei sono morti IV, as a representative of another mini project of mine.

The pieces are for double bass, tenor saxophone and electronics. The common thread of my Different Rooftops is a research on harmonics and multiphonics that interlace together in a braid of transparent layers.

With me in the project are my super talented friends, Helgi and Bergur. Helgi is a fantastic saxophonist that has performed with bands and groups like Aurora Quartet, Skyer Quartet, Reykjavík Big Band, Samúel Jón Samúelsson Big Band, Orphic Oxtra, Blæti and Eyjafjalla Experience. Bergur is a young recording engineer who's name has been rising rapidly in the Icelandic music scene over the last years due to his unique skills and self custom-made audio gear, that he has used in his work of the latest releases from bands and artists like Agent Fresco, Björk, Hjaltalín, Ólafur Arnalds, Rökkurró and Sigur Rós.

I myself am studying composition at The Royal Danish Academy of Music. Before that I studied at the Iceland Academy of the Arts in Reykjavík and Conservatorio ”G.Verdi” in Milan. My music has been performed by ensembles like Boyes Musikkompani, Duo Harpverk, Mimitabu, Náttey Ensemble, ReDo Quartet, Reykjavík Pianotrio and Vertixe ensemble. I am an active performer and frequently perform my own music. I have also performed with Skark Ensemble, S.L.Á.T.U.R. and the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, as well as being a member of the Hamrahlíð Choir and bassist in the Balkan band Orphic Oxtra. I was the 1st bass of the Iceland Youth Symphony Orchestra before moving abroad for further composition studies. In January 2015 I founded the pop-up ensemble Náttey whom I have performed with regularly since. Recently I joined the artist collective Errata. The group’s objective is to provide a platform for young composers to present themselves and their art as widely as possible, as well as promoting new and innovative ways in composition and distribution (http://erratacollective.com/).
