--- English description below ---

--- English description ---

We are working on a stage production called “The Nightingale and the Rose”. The story was written by the irish writer and socialite Oscar Wilde. It was part of a collection of shorts he wrote for his children with the intention of teaching them good morals. The story touches on many themes such as ungratefulness, arts and societal values, understanding and intelligence, empty beauty, judging in haste, the value of love, and nature vs. man.

The idea is to create an intermedia puppet play for people of all ages. We strive to bring a modern touch to this classic story alongside using this as a personal research process to delve into our interests and aspects of production. We plan to blend elements of dance, animation, puppetry, stage design, and storytelling to bring the story to life.

The story tells of a young student, who is infatuated with the professor’s daughter. She has agreed to dance with him if he gives her a red rose. Unable to find a rose, the student despairs. A nightingale who believes in love above all else seeks to help him but the rose will cost him everything. The nightingale must make a difficult decision. Should she help the student win his love when the price is so high?
