War of the Worlds, Tolkien style symphony by Hafsteinn Þórólfsson and Hannes Páll Pálsson

Hidden People is a 45 minute, 10 part musical composition which tells an original story based on a character found in Icelandic folklore called Thordur The Spellbreaker. The story takes place north of the Vatnajökull glacier in an area infused with stories of elves, trolls, spirits and otherworldly creatures. The story, told through music, is dynamic, mysterious, suspenseful, dramatic and should appeal to a broad age group.

The narrative explains how Thordur got his nickname, The Spellbreaker.

The musical composition echoes traditional Icelandic folkmusic where each part describes a single event in the narrative which is then tied together with a narrator on stage. The piece is melodic and accessible.

Hidden People is performed by a string quintet, a six person vocal group, two solo performers, a narrator and an electronic artist.

The composers grew up listening to narrative heavy musical compositions like Peter and the Wolf, When the Robbers came to Cardamom Town and later War of the Worlds by Jeff Wayne and have long been fascinated by storytelling through music.

The composers’ hope is to convey Icelandic folklore in a new and exciting way, inviting the audience into their world of adventure to surprise and delight.

 Fo famm!

Each night we roam and search the blackest desert highlands,                                      looking out for                                                                                                                        human travelers.

We're looking for a child to soothe the evil elf queen.                                                          Her enchantment                                                                                                                    rid of we will finally' be.

We've brought her all to many little helpless infants.                                                                Hoping that we                                                                                                                      can decieve her.

For if they don't resemble the one lost forever.                                                                  She will take them                                                                                                                  out and throw them off a cliff.
