Workplace

Over time and as events unfold, we perform our many roles. The artist Hulda Vilhjálmsdóttir has now published a book through which she wishes to offer insight into her life. The book comprises visual artworks and poems created during the years 2017–2019. During this period she faced one of the most difficult tasks of her life to date: a struggle with cancer, with emotions and fear, and with all the attendant questions and uncertainty.

The life of an artist is many-faceted. Problems and projects arrive like waves upon a shore. Hulda walks along the shoreline, barefoot on the sandy beach. She picks the projects up from the sand, one by one, and completes them.

Solitude is ever-present in Hulda’s book. The poems convey the sense that when all is said and done, every human must face her undertakings alone and wrestle with herself and her environment in solitude. The cat is always close by, however – a boundless source of warmth and wise energy.

The artist’s ego contains fine, delicate silk, the finest material in all the world. This delicate, beautiful silk comes into being within the artist. Through her sincere desire to make the world a better and more beautiful place, she shares the silk with the rest of us.

Hulda’s innate curiosity drives her and matures her. Her visual art and poetry echo one another. United on the page, they forma melody that becomes the music of life.
