Further Information

The Lamb Calendar (Lambadagatalið) is adorned with large and beautiful portraits of newly born lambs photographed in their natural environment. The photographs capture their beauty, personality and the miraculous experience embodied in a new life. The calendar is printed in an A4 layout (height of 297 mm and width of 210 mm) where each month has its own page. It is spiral bound with an embedded hook allowing for easy display. The calendar has information on Icelandic holidays as well as flag days, the names and arrival dates of the Icelandic Yule Lads, the names and starting dates of the old months along with various days related to Icelandic history. The calendar is thus not only decorative but also contains nuggets of Icelandic history and is a perfect gift for the holidays. The calendar can therefore extend its lifetime over the traditional year because of the beautiful photographs and included knowledge.
In addition to the calendar, each sale on Karolina Fund will also include a postcard (Lambakort) with a photograph of newborn lambs. These postcard are also a part of this project. This is to our knowledge the first project working solely with photographs of newborn Icelandic lambs.

Ragnar is a sheepfarmer and a photographer and most photographs in the calendar are shot at his farm Sýrnes in Aðaldal. Arney Ósk is a specialist in gaining the lambs trust and friendship. It takes dedication and time to catch good portraits of lambs as other newborns. The lambs are independent and constantly moving. They closely watch their surroundings and are not keen on staying still and posing while you set up your camera. The photographs are shot during the birthing season, a busy time for sheep farmers. It can therefore be difficult to find free time to catch photographs of the lambs. But laying on the ground catching photographs of the lambs is nourishing for the body and soul. The lambs are photographed either with their mothers or alone and getting close to them requires their trust because otherwise they frighten and run away. Then it is good to remember the basic principle of communication:
"The lambs are intelligent beings and should be treated as such."
