Further Information

I started the knitting company Gusta.is 2 years ago. The dream was to create a new type of wool which would have the light, warm feeling of the Icelandic wool but at the same time be softer and stronger. After a great deal of testing, the ideal result, which I named Mosa mjúkull, is a blend of Icelandic wool and Peruvian alpaca. The yarn is sold online and in several stores in Iceland and Norway. Some of my knitting designs are available on my website of gusta.is, in particular sweaters and pullovers for all age groups.

Knitting is such a nice hobby and I feel it is such a big part of my Icelandic heratige. I want to share it with the people visiting Iceland who share our knitting passion - and with knitting lovers around the globe. There is a big threshold for knitters who want to explore foreign designs as the knitting language is highly specialized and it is difficult to read knitting patterns in other languages, even though you can speak some of the language. The knitting patterns are highly technical and the need to be 100% accurate.

Therefore I have created this book with simple knitting patterns in 5 languages. The languages chosen are the most common languages who like to buy knitting yarn in Iceland. I have worked with 3 amazing translators, May Britt Zamori for Norwegian, Christine Helenius for German and Geraldine Oudin for French. I have made the Icelandic and English version myself.
Helena Adalsteinsdottir (my daughter and visual artist) creates the layout of the book.

Models for the photos are my closest family, my daughter Margrét, son Stefán, sister Erna and her daughters Snæfríður Lillí and Sigurbjörg Danía. I shot the photos in Isafjordur, in North-West Iceland during eastern 2017, because this is the place where I was born and this is the place I want to share with others in my books. During the photoshoot we had a cat joined us and added some colour! So you can see that the book is a joined effort of the people around me who are helpful and supportive. Now we only need to pay for the printing of the book in order to have it in our hands.
