Fund raising to revive the paper of biology student at University of Iceland
We, Dagný, Sigurlaug and Ölvir, are three upcoming biologist that dream of publishing Kímblaðið, the paper of biology students at the University of Iceland, and at the same time resurrect it, as it has not been published for a few years. It will unfortunately only be published in Icelandic. We are working with Sólveig, a graphic design student at the Iceland Academy of the Arts, and she will set it up. Self we are second and third year biology student.

Kímblaðið will include informative and entertaining material ranging from genetics to travel stories written by biologists and biology students. Crosswords and a puzzle for readers to test their knowledge on will also be included. We think everyone can find something interesting in the paper for them.

Biology is a field that touches everyone is some way. Your surroundings are filled with life and its marks, the fish in the seas feed the world, the birds fill the sky, the plants protect the soil, cells make up your body, your genome creates you, climate changes possibly threaten life and one could go on. One can truly say that biology is an interdisciplinary field and touches our every day life in more ways than one. The subjects of biology also very interesting and often very beautiful. For example the scales of different fish species can be viewed below. Life has almost endless shapes and forms which can be wonderful to look at such as the structure of veins in a leaf as seen above.
Scales of haddock, mackerel, cod and rose fish seen through stereomicroscope.
Student papers are for example used as a medium within the university, but we want to give more people access to Kímblaðið. Foremost though we want to get it published, which is the main reason we turn to you, as advertisement will not cover our expenses. The paper is well on its way to its completion and most of its content is ready. The next step is to set it up and publish it, but that depends on whether it will be funded or not. Approximated date of publication is the 1st of April, no joke.
